These one-off-one Chawans are statement art objects, existing at the compelling intersection of ritual vessel and fine art. Each piece is hand-built from premium stoneware plastic clay, a material that allows for a direct, powerful interaction between the artist’s intent and the physical medium. Explored through the high-stakes alchemy of wood and gas-firing, the thick, snow-like Shino glaze creates a vivid, unrepeatable dialogue between artistic intentionality and the unpredictable atmosphere of the kiln. These Chawans transcend their utilitarian roots to become singular art pieces—a soulful harmony between a masterful command of technique and the ancestral power of fire.
