Since 2012, STUDIO MASTRO has evolved as a contemporary design studio, grounded in European craft heritage and defined by architectural clarity and refined minimalism.
Founded by Márton Strohner — designer, ceramic artist, and member of the International Academy of Ceramics (IAC) — the studio operates at the compelling intersection of traditional craftsmanship and contemporary design thinking. The studio’s practice is built on a deep respect for porcelain’s historical roots, reinterpreting ancestral techniques through a sophisticated, modern lens.
STUDIO MASTRO creates porcelain objects, lighting, and collectible ceramic art pieces developed as meticulously crafted small series and one-of-one works. Rejecting mass-production, the studio focuses on slow production processes and material integrity. Every piece represents a commitment to quality and a clear architectural vision, where the harmony of proportion, surface, and light converges.
ABOUT
Márton Strohner is a designer and ceramic artist whose practice spans design, curatorial work, and institutional leadership within the field of contemporary ceramics. His artistic vision is deeply rooted in therespect and reinterpretation of ancient porcelain traditions, translating ancestral heritage into a refined, minimalist visual language.
Educated at the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design and further shaped by international studies in Italy, his professional background includes directing the world-renowned International Ceramics Studio and leading global projects at the Hungarian Academy of Arts.
His work is a soulful dialogue between the subconscious cultural imprints of ceramic history—such as the symbolic power of Cobalt—and the high-stakes alchemy of atmospheric firing. Strohner’s pieces have been exhibited internationally and are held in major public collections. He has been a member of the International Academy of Ceramics (IAC) since 2021.
Each STUDIO MASTRO object is developed through a porcelain slip casting process rooted in the discipline of European manufacturing traditions and shaped by contemporary design methodology.
Every piece isindividually hand-cast, refined, and assembled in the studio by founder Márton Strohner. From initial mould preparation to the final firing, the entire journey is executed with full technical control and material precision.
The studio utilizes diverse firing technologies tailored to the specific character of each collection. For functional series, highly controlled electric firings ensure the absolute clarity, purity, and precision of the minimalist design. In contrast, the studio’s unique art pieces are often subjected to the unpredictable alchemy of wood and gas atmospheres, where the kiln becomes an active collaborator in the creative process.
Form, proportion, and surface are resolved through a deep engagement with the material, ensuring that each work reflects a singular combination of architectural clarity and artistic intuition. All pieces of LIGHTING and OBJECTS collections are made to order, representing a commitment to quality and theunrepeatable nature of handcrafted porcelain, UNIQUE pieces are ready for immediate dispatch from the studio.
